Whether you’re exploring Givebutter for the first time or trying to figure out how it stacks up against other fundraising platforms, reading real user experiences can go a long way!
In this article, we’ve rounded up Givebutter reviews from nonprofits that have used the platform – focusing on what works, what doesn’t, and what to expect when it comes to features and pricing.
Let’s dive in!
Let’s spotlight some Givebutter reviews by nonprofits like yours.
Nonprofits like that Givebutter is easy to use and navigate.
It is easy to sign up and navigate this platform. – Nancy.
I love the ease of using the Give Butter platform. It is laid out well and easy for me to understand. – Wendy.
Some Givebutter reviews note that the platform helps effectively track donations and collect donor data.
I like the ease of using the program such as compiling data for contacts and managing and tracking donations being made in person or online.” – Brittany F.
Reviews of Givebutter’s auction software highlight its user-friendly functionality.
We only used the platform to host a silent auction for non profit fundraiser. We really appreciated the ease of use… – Ashley.
Easy, efficient platform for our auction… – Margaret Bruce.
Nonprofits who enable Givebutter’s 100% optional tipping model can utilize its features for free, waiving all platform and processing fees involved when tipping is enabled (more on this below).
However, some nonprofits note that the messaging around Givebutter’s optional tipping model can confuse donors.
Many people complained that it was unclear and not explained well, and they felt they were “tricked” into giving to someone other than our school. It was hard for donors to understand the difference between providing the cost to us and the donation to Givebutter.” – Verified User.
Givebutter requires users to manually withdraw funds via the Payouts page, and each withdrawal goes through a manual approval process. Standard payouts are free and take 3-5 business days to reach your linked account once initiated.
For faster access, you can request instant payouts after verifying your nonprofit account on the platform – but this comes with a 1.75% fee.
Here’s what a user had to say about it:
I do not like that GiveButter does not automatically disperse the funds raised into our Stripe account and that we need to request the funds from GiveButter to receive them.” – Verified User.
Some reviews of Givebutter note that the platform offers limited customization options.
What I dislike about Givebutter is that the campaign building tools are not very customizable. It can be challenging to tailor campaign pages exactly how we want them to look and function.” – Cassie B.
Givebutter currently only offers three recurring donation interval options for donation forms: monthly, quarterly, and annual. Its lack of a weekly giving interval, in particular, may be limiting for some organizations, like churches collecting weekly tithes and offerings.
…As a church, it is tough not having the option for weekly giving for my donors…” – Drew Weserman.
Givebutter has a 4.8 out of 5 “Value for Money” rating on Capterra.
We touched on this briefly above, but it’s worth digging deeper into the platform’s pricing model – especially since it’s one of the most talked-about features in Givebutter reviews.
Givebutter relies on a 100% optional tipping model, which means you can access all fundraising tools without platform or processing fees – if you enable donor tipping.
In this setup, donors are asked to cover Stripe’s standard processing fee (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction) and add a voluntary tip to support Givebutter directly. If the donor chooses not to cover the processing fee, Givebutter will absorb that cost.
However, if you disable tipping, a platform fee of up to 5% applies (depending on whether you’re part of the Standard or Legacy pricing plan and the type of campaign), in addition to the processing fees. Donors have the option to cover these fees.
Some Givebutter reviewers note that the platform’s tipping model can be misleading:
…they add a significant “platform fee” (5% – not small as advertised on their website) when the charitable organization has either not known about or has purposely disabled the tips option…” – Judy.
This may lead to confusion and ultimately result in mistrust and tipping fatigue among donors.
Givebutter’s features are rated 4.5 out of 5 on Capterra.
